Hello! First fun tidbit from our trip... K set this quarter on the roof of the Honda (I have no clue why he did, nor does he...) and when we stopped for gas just outside of Charlottesville, IT WAS STILL THERE! Crazy, huh? Of course, we decided to leave it to see how far we could get with our quarter. Wouldn't it be cool to make it all the way to Colorado with a quarter on the roof??
We won't. We must have moved it while we marveled, because about two minutes down the road, we stopped at a red light and opened the door to look and it was gone. Oh well.
So we made it to beautiful Charlottesville and took Banger on his first trip around Grounds! He loved it, after he got over his terror on the Corner. (For those of you not in the know, the Corner is an area with bars, restaurants and shops. Also, sorry you aren't cool enough to know. You should really take a trip to Charlottesville.) In retrospect, it makes sense that we took a dog that has spent the last few months at his grandparents' house in the country to the bustling Corner with tons of people and cars and he got a little nervous. But once we left the Corner and headed toward the Lawn, he calmed down considerably. You can see him and K enjoying some dumplings from a food truck below. We felt pretty hip to be buying dumplings at the food truck they have near the Amphitheater now.
Once we were actually there, and K got a tad bit grumpy with the heat, we realized he just spent twelve weeks in Charlottesville and it didn't really feel like we had started our road trip. So back into the car we went! We hopped on the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoyed the beautiful views below.
Now we are getting to the part where we almost stalled out. If you don't know, first of all, consider yourself lucky. Unfortunately, I'm about to tell you. After enjoying a great day with family and friends at our going away party, I was sitting at the bonfire and started to feel... not so hot. K and I went to bed, but I was up not much later with what was apparently a stomach flu. I'll spare you the gory details, but I ended up taking a blanket and pillow into the powder room and setting up camp. Blech.
So fast forward with me now. We decided to stop for the night in Lexington, Virginia. We spent a couple of days there during K's R&R from Iraq and loved it. So we found a hotel, got some appetizers and drinks and decided on what sounded like a really great tapas restaurant. Until K laid down and started to say he didn't feel quite right. And then I got a text from my best friend warning me that it probably wasn't food poisoning from which I had suffered, as her daughter was currently throwing up.
Uh oh.
After dutifully attempting to care for my husband, including a late night Walmart run to get a few supplies (and I really hate Walmart), for what I assumed would be a night of horror, it turns out he didn't get nearly as sick as I did. Thank goodness! Now its Tuesday morning, we both feel fine, and we are headed off to Charleston, West Virginia!
